The only son of Ed and Kathleen Show was born on February 27, 1962. In Detroit, Michigan, U.S. Grant and his sister Kelly were brought up in Milpitas, California. Grant, indeed, developed a passion for acting at an early age.

The actor is a graduate in theatre arts at the University of California, Los Angeles. Meanwhile, he was a member of a social fraternity, Alpha Tau Omega (ATO).
