The activist was born as Carole Stairs Jones in 1961. She was born and raised in Lackland Air Force Base in Bexar County, Texas. When Carole was nine, she had an interest in saving cats and pursuing her career as a veterinarian. However, she dropped the decision after knowing veterinarians euthanize animals in severe conditions.

Later, she moved in with Don Lewis while still married to Murdock. Subsequently, they married in 1991. Afterward, Carole filed a divorce against her ex-husband. According to her, Lewis was obsessed with sex and had affairs.
In 1997, Lewis filed a restraining order against Carole for threatening to kill him. Afterward, Lewis disappeared in August 1997 and was declared legally dead in 2002. As of now, the case is still open.
Later, she tied the knot with Howard Baskin in November 2004. Sooner, he became the chairman of the advisory board in Big Cat Rescue. As of now, the couple currently runs the wildlife sanctuary.

Specifically, the miniseries documented the tale of Joe Exotic, a private zoo owner who was convicted for trying to murder Carole Baskin. Moreover, Baskin sued him for trademark infringement.
